I have got a Toshiba SD-330Ewhich I have had for about 2 years and I have never had any playback issues with DVD-R or any other discs. Think they are quite cheap in Richer Sounds

On the contary, my SD 330e won't play the DVD-r's I've been burning! (Imation 4.7Gb) Think it played one of them once, but won't play them anymore, but does play some other types...

But I'm new to all this burning malarky so it could be something I'm doing wrong, although the disc's do play on other machines...

Check the Panasonic model number in my signature, it plays anything I throw at it.

Second, the Pioneer (in fact any Pioneer model).

    And would also suggest NEC.

Have to recommend the Pioneer also, but playback does depend on what type of blanks you use, the better the quality they better the playback, if you use budget media then dont be suprised if them freeze/skip.

Just thought that I'd add a previous hard to play (Mindhunters) DVD that used to skip now plays completely fine after the 2.09 firmware update that Pioneer sent in the post, so I think my Pioneer DV575 has a 100% record with my DVD collection now! It also plays all DVD-R's that I've recorded from a Sony RDR-GX3 recorder off Sky so i'm pretty happy.

I was hoping the firmware update for the Pioneer would fix the problem with the long loading time on Star Wars Episode 2 Region 4 release and even though it has cut down the loading time it still takes about 60 seconds.
