I know DVD-RAM discs are available in 9.4GB capacity but does anyone know if DVD-R 9.4GB Double-sided discs are available for my Panasonic DMR-E95H?

If so where can I get them from? :lesson:

These would be a particularly useful format to archive to.

Please note I will only be buying small batches (i.e 10 or 20).

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    G.

    Hi

The discs are readily available but the drive in the panasonic is only a single layer drive so will only write to single layer discs.
The 9.4 discs are dual layer.

    G,
These are widely available ( though not in the likes of Curry's etc)
    For good prices try www.pricebuster.org.uk
Last time I looked they were 4.99 for Maxell, but there is a del. charge.
    Also try www.multiregionmagic.co.uk
Remember you can archive on DVD-R on your machine but the RAMs are infinitely more flexible

    G,
The double sided ones WILL definitely play on your machine, with all due respect to Malteser, I think he is confusing a different format.
I use the double sided (9.4) all the time and have done ever since I had an E20 . I tend to buy Panny's own brand and have never had a problem.

Thanks for those links, but I can only see double-sided DVD-RAM discs NOT double-sided DVD-R discs on those sites. I am ideally looking for DVD-R 9.4Gb to archive to.

Am I being blind (quite likely)? Or are these not yet affordable/available to the home user?

    I've never seen a double sided DVD-R. DVD-RAM, yes.

I've never heard of 'double sided' DVD-Rs either.

I think an apology to Maltezer is an aorder here :)

    Malteser and The G
    Please accept my apologies
My brain was seeing Ram not -R. I assumed Malteser was thinking of double layer discs :suicide:

I think there may be confusion with double layer and double sided here? The double layer +r's are 8.5GB and DO need a double layer writer. I have one in my PC but I've not seen a 'consumer' one. I think the double sided ones are just like normal DVD-R's but you can flip them.

These are not commercially available. I remember reading somewhere about someone glueing two -Rs back to back, using the spindle guide found on labelling kits for accuracy. Everything at your own risk, of course, and there's no guarantee it will work on standalone recorders.

Double-layer single-sided +R (and soon -R) are of course something completely different.

It seems that double sided (yes, double sided, not dual layer) DVD-R does exist - "Hammy" found it. The Verbatim model 94171. And he also gave a link where you can buy them.

You're right - I didn't look hard enough. Apologies to Hammy, and yourself... :suicide:

It was also baffling that the retail site was offering marker pens for use on these discs!
