Hi, I just bought a 50" samsung, it looks great with the xbox, and standard tv is good. Dvd's on the other hand look poor. Both in the xbox and my phillips surround sound with hdmi cable.

Any ideas..

have you told your phillips surround sound with hdmi cable to output in 1080i and checked the aspect is 16:9 as that is all you can do.

Hi,

which Samsung plasma do you have ?
Have you tried several DVDs and do they all show this noisy effect ?
Could you post an image of how your noisy picture looks ?

DVDs won't look much better than a good BBC broadcast at best and can look a lot worse particularly if they are older poorer transfers. Get a decent upscaling DVD player, I went from Sony to Denon and that was a huge leap. Failing that get a Blu-ray player and ditch the DVDs.
