    Hi all,

I have an 18month old 37inch Hitachi plasma display with 1024x1024 resolution and a Denon 2800 DVD player. When I set the DVD player to progressive mode, the display goes out of sync while the DVD menu is still showing.

Does anyone know why this happens?

I am using component video cables to connect the DVD player to the plasma display.

    Thanks for any help.

Quite possible it won't accept progressive input. The screen itself is intrinsically interlaced, so it's not a big deal. The pd3000 series accepts progressive but there's no mention of it in the UK user guide.

I have the Hitachi and the Denon 2800 and don't have a problem displaying progressive or interlaced but did have problems when I first changed from Scart to Component.

If you are using the component output from the Denon you must make sure that in the Denon's settings you set it to video output and not RGB. Your picture should then be perfect.

In the Denon settings there is nothing about RGB. I can choose either video or film in the video format section. Am I looking at the wrong menu?

If your Hitachi is 18 months old it is probably the 37PD2100 not the newer PD3000 which some of the above posts are referring to.

The older Hitachi model may not accept a progressive input.

Not probably, it is, as they've stopped doing the 37" Having asked around, I think the problem is that it doesn't like progressive. Not the end of the world with this panel, it was designed to accept interlaced, and the panel is interlaced in any case. I'd live with the interlaced, the denon will provide a classy interlaced signal.

I'm very happy with the interlaced picture but would have bought a cheaper player (not much cheaper) without progressive scan If I'd know it wouldn't work. I bought the 2800 2nd hand for AU$800 which is AU$1600 LESS THAN the retail price and it was less than 12 months old.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Comfort yourself, a lesser player would not look so good
