Roughly what proportion of your DVD collection is UK region 2?

I'm surprised that more than 50 per cent of the voters said they either have all region 2 or 80 per cent or more region 2 DVDs. I think I have about 50 per cent region 2 considering the numbers of region 1 and 3 I purchased last year.

I'd prefer to get more R1 DVD's but our kitchen DVD player and our bedroom player are R2 only so I only buy R1 DVD's for films I'll only watch in the living room

The majority are R2's although i have really started to buy more and more R3's given how cheap they are!

It's only since I've been coming on here regularly that I've bought more stuff from other regions(approx R0=5, R1=11, R3=13).

As I've said before, you lot on here are a bad influence on me. ;)

I've always purchased mine from US/canada, you gotta be a mug to pay
UK prices, and for movies that have been cut to ribbons.

I nearly always buy region 2 unless there is alot better version on region 1. The best example i can give of this is the region 1 version of the butterfly effect which is alot better than the region 2 version.

As to price I have not noticed any major difference in price and certainly not enough to make me buy mainly region 1 films.

i was surprised by the number of people with 80% R2's as well. I tend to go through phases with dvd's. When i first started buying them i got mainly R1's from dvdboxoffice cos they were really cheap, then i started buying mostly R2's from play, then cd-wow because they were even cheaper, but at the moment i'm back to buying R1's from dvdsoon because they are the cheapest yet!! I put 60% R2's because i think my number of R2's does overshadow R1's but not by as much as 80%.

    I've just looked on dvdprofiler and apparently I have;

    147 region 2
    86 region 1

Haven't bought any region 2 disks for ages now though as they're all coming from dvdsoon.

May be it is a stupid question, but...
AFAK, PAL dvds (Region 2) have resolution of 576x720 pixels, and NTSC (R1) DVDs have 480x640, which is smaller.
So, is it correct to say that NTCS disk are inferior to R2 in terms of resolution?

    Thanx,
    EN

My player is only R2, so all my disks are R2.

I think that a lot of dvd purchases are "impulse buys".and if your local supermarket,tesco/sainsbury and the like were to start selling region 1 discs the percentage would be a lot higher.

Spot on- Mr Tesco's 4 for £20 and similar account for unexpectedly high levels of R2 purchases for me. Most 2nd hand stuff I buy is R2 as well.

You haven't noticed a difference in prices between UK region 2 and other regions?

    Have you even looked?

A quick example would be I picked up the new region 1 collector's edition of Top Gun and it cost me around £6. Equivalent region 2 which will be released in April I believe is going to cost how much? £12? £13? More? Basically it's cost me roughly half what the region 2 will cost.

Another example would be region 3 DVDs where I've picked up no end of new releases including I, robot; Hellboy; underworld and many many more for less than 10 quid. Please tell me where I can pick up double disc releases or any releases of the latest blockbusters for £10 or less on region 2!
