appologies if this is available elsewhere, but I am after a list of DVD players that support PAL (as well as NTSC) progressive scan - I'm looking to upgrade (well its moving to another room so I'm going to take my chance to get a better DVD player  ) my HK 25 that supports PAL and NTSC prog scan so I don't want to lose that feature.

Obviously I'm only interested in players that are noticably better than my HK 25.

Seriously, it would now be easier to list players above £300 that don't have PAL/NTSC PS. Popular choices include the Denon series from the 2200 up, Arcam a bit above that and Pioneer.

well when I was looking (about 18 months ago) last time there wasn't many that did PAL prog scan properly other than the high end denons.

I will have a look at the new Denons - thanks for your help.

I didn't mean to be flippant, its just that there are loads of them! Prog scan players have proliferated far beyond the number of buyers actually able to use the feature.

No worries, its just prog scan is a very important feature for me, as with it turned off on my player the image flickers and looks compressed, and with my collection roughly split in half between NTSC and PAL it has to support both for prog scan.

18 months ago there were issues with Pal Prog scan not being supported by the DVD standard so no DVD players could legally provide it (although some were firmware upgradeable). IIRC it was something to do with macrovision or copyright protection or something. Nowadays you will find that any player with Progressive Scan will support a PS output from both PAL and NTSC sources.

As I recall, switching to PAL PS on 90%+ of the units disabled the macrovision which of course macrovison weren't wildly keen on.
