dvd player with 5.1 on board..or buy an amp with 5.1 on

    Hello guys wondering if you lot can be of help to me...you have been in the past so...
    Ive got the chance to buy a Tosh 3109 which has got a 5.1 decoder on board...or the hitachi 250E without it on..both players seem the same spec but if i buy a seperate amp ( which im gonna need any way for the speakers ) surely nowadays all amps have got a 5.1 decoder on board...im stuck please help.. thanks alot

    Opt for the decoding in the amp, that will normally result in better quality.

    You can also buy a DVD player with decoder (5.1) output *) and just not use it, no harm.

    *) Actually every DVD player has the decoder built in to be able to provide for the downmix to stereo or DPL, the only difference is if the outputs are made available on the back or not.
    In addition to that some players offer then a simple speaker set-up.
