DVD Player with 5.1 decoder

Hi all,

I am currently using a PS2 to playback DVD's but have recently been having recurring problems with dvd's garbling and skipping part way through the film (not good!). I think this may be due to switching layers but dont know how to fix it.

Therefore, i'm thinking of ditching the ps2 as a DVD player and getting a standalone device instead. Ideally i'd like one with a built in 5.1 decoder to use with the inputs on my home cinema system (rather than it doing pro-logic).

I have found a couple of players but they seam to be over £500 and was wondering if any one had a list of players which have this decoder built in and some recommendations would be useful too.

Thanks

Duncan

The Pioneer DV-656A has a 5.1 decoder on board, and is a great player. It has won several awards, including the What Hi-Fi best DVD player of the year 2002.

You can get one Multi Region for around £320.

I highly recommend it.

The Tosh 420 and 520 both have builtin decoders and can be had for £160 and £215 respectively. They do DD but not DTS.

Hi,

Doesn't the Sony 700 (available from Richer sounds) have Dd and DTS onboard.

Thanks guys - I have taken a look at the pioneer and it sounds pretty good. Will give the other a good look before making my decision though.
