    Hi Folks

I am in the process of buying a Philips LCD TV, Model number 30PF9975 and would like a decent DVD player to use with it. Reviews mention the best picture can be obtained from a DVD player with 1080i Component Output. I really have no idea what this means, can anyone explain, and also reccomend a DVD player which has this output?

    Many thanks for you help

The hi def formats are measured by lines/pixels to the horizontal and vertical sides of the display panel i.e 480i or p 720p and 1080i.

The i refers to an interlaced signal and the p refers to a progressive scan signal.
The numbers are the lines or lines of pixels measured along the vertical axis, i.e running in parallel to the horizontal of the display. Obviously the higher the number the higher the resolution.

Thanks for that, I had suspected it was something along those lines. So, does the average DVD player uses a 480i or p output?

Can anyone tell me where I can get a DVD player which will output 1080i via component, and could they clarify for me if I am right in saying that you can have componant out via scart as well as the Y, Pb, Pr or have I misread this.

I may as well use the higher resoluton if the TV is capable of it.

    Any help would be great.

I think the only DVD player that offers such high ress is the new Pioneer 59 AVi Elite. It uses HDMI (which can be changed to DVi using a cable) and it offers 1080i
