    Afternoon All

I'm considering upgrading to a better player (I currently have a Yamaha S520 - based on some Philips player and I'm happy enough but want to know if I can improve things, also not so impressed with the operating system) - I'm using a 32" Loewe Aconda Q2400 set as my display through RGB

Here's my list of wants/don't wants

    1. Prog scan irrelevant
    2. Good/excellent Interlaced Picture
    3. Black/Silver - no gold
    4. RGB and possibly component output
    5. DVDA/SCAD irrelevant
    6. Decent Remote
    7. Decent Build Quailty
    8. Buying 2nd hand OK, as is new (but will have to move down the market obviously)
    9. Cost - sub 500 I reckon but the cheaper the better
    10 Multiregion/RCE

I've got the following players under consideration

    Pioneer 717

    Pros - cheap, good build
Cons - picture quality vs new models, lip sync, layer change, no component, some disc issues, noisy drive

    Arcam DV88

Pros - component via scart, build
Cons - Cost, specification, noisy drive

    Toshiba 900e

    Cons - Gold

Anything else I should consider (pioneer 737,747,Sony) ?

Is the interlaced picture quality of newer players getting better or is it more features being added ? Would an old flagship player be the best picture quality ?

How about the old Sony flagship - 7700 IIRC?

    Cheers,
