I'm starting from scratch in my new sitting room and have opted for a PV500 on a wall mount. Given the lack of HDTV material in the short term, I'm beginning to wonder if I should be choosing a DVD player on the basis of whether it has an HDMI output. Would it make sense just to get something mid range but good quality until the market matures a bit and more programing is available? This will allow me to spend my limited budget on a better amp and speakers (not to mention the fireplace I just ordered!). Any guidance would be appreciated.

I would not bother with a HDMI machine. It will still only be SD. If you need something now stick with component and wait until you have something HD for that input.
