    Hello all,

I'm currently running a Pioneer DVD player through an Optoma/Themescene H30. I'm very happy with the set up except for a noticeable "whistling" sound that the colourwheel has developed recently (I've had it over two years now).

The good news is the whistling disappears when playing a region 1 (NTSC) disc because the colourwheel spins slightly faster due to the 60hz output. I can set my Pioneer to lock to 60hz, but it has trouble playing PAL discs on this setting (you get 'frame jitter' - I'm sure there is a correct technical term for it).

Anyway - my question is; is there a good multi-region DVD player at around the £100 mark that will correctly convert a PAL signal to a stable 60hz output?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

This won't be of much help now, but the Panny S97 does a superb job of converting PAL to a 60Hz 525p (NTSC) signal. I had a Pioneer 470 briefly before that and it was terrible at doing this (and much more besides!), but the Panny has been great.

Thanks for that, Geoff...I did have a look around the net but they seem fairly tricky to come by...and perhaps a bit out of my price range.

Are there any similar machines out there, I wonder?

Panasonic have just introduced the DVD-S99EG-S which I believe replace the S97. It's currently available here:

..and possibly EU wide later in the year.

    Definitly a machine to consider.;)

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll keep an eye out, although it could be a little out of my price range...

Are there any other suggestions peeps???

    Hi Sparkytoon,

Thanks very much for the offer...I've decided I need to talk to Optoma about the colour wheel noise, and if I don't make any headway there, I may get in touch, although it might not be until my finances are a bit more solid. I use a Pioneer 565a myself, which I'm otherwise very happy with.

Naturally, don't let me stop you from finding another buyer in the meantime!

    Regards,

    Skyav:thumbsup:
