This machine is for a present for my dad, he's deaf in one ear so sound quality is not a high requirement. Plus he'll never be hooking it up to an AV system. Picture quality and ease of use are the key issues. Don't really need any gimmicks other than a decent remote.

Must be multi-region and have at least one scart socket.

Probably buy from Techtronics or dvdplayers as i've ordered from them both in the past.

Happy to buy any of the usual brands, Sony, Panny, Tosh, Pioneer or Samsung.

As usual all advice gratefully received, you guys have steered me right in the past.

Cheers

Anyone know how long dvdplayers usually take to deliver?

Not that I'm impatient or anything but when you come from using computer retailers who deliver before 10am the next day if you order before 5, and even better Viking direct who deliver the same day you get rather bored waiting....and waiting.... :p
And I can't even watch a film while I'm waiting cos then I won't hear the delivery man if he does come :(

boohoo, I must go and cause some mischief elsewhere then.

I was apparently number 46 in the queue for my new Pioneer DVD player from Unbeatable last month. I was promised 48 hour delivery, but they only got 15 in the first delivery batch. The woman on the phone said they were expecting another 15 in the next day, so I would just have to wait until no. 46 appeared "sometime soon".

I phoned 5 times the following day to find out when the next-next shipment would be in and she got so peed off with me that she bumped me to the top of the queue and I got mine the next morning 9am.:) . So keep bugging them and you could get lucky!
