I've just posted a request for recommendations for a new DVD player on the DVD section, but just in case here's the spec I'm looking at :-

Multi-region (who does the best conversions ?).
Progressive scan (on PAL and NTSC ????).
    DVD audio (maybe worth it).
I have a decent CD player so CD quality is not important.

Upto about 1K, any one any ideas ? Should I think about a cheaper DVD without progressive scan (especially since most my stuff is R2) and maybe add an Iscan or similar later ?

Since I posted the original I noticed that a Denon 2800 could be upgraded to PAL progressive so it may be worth considering.

Anyway if anyone can offer me a pointer in the right direction.

    Cheers

Pioneer 737 works well with NTSC progressive.
Toshiba 900 DVD-A player is very nice, picture and sound are great.
Given the option though I would use an Iscan and have the ability to scale VHS, laser, Sat , etc. Also picture smoothness is better on the Iscan than the Pioneer.
I dont know about the Denon 2800.
