My Toshiba 210E has served me well for nearly 3 years, but I find that it doesn't play DVD-R's recorded on my Panasonic E50 recorder or PC burner very well. (Sound drops out, sticking and blocky artifacts). The buttons have started to fall off my ancient Rotel RCD-965BX cd player too, although it still sounds sweet.

Is there any budget/midrange DVD player that would guarantee decent DVD-R playback and prove a suitable replacement for my cd player?

I'm not concerned about progressive scan or component outs, but I would prefer if the machine could read MP3 cds (or even mp3 dvds) and play DVD-RAM discs recorded in VR mode. Two scarts with RGB passthrough would be nice, but not essential.

The Panasonic S75 looks like a reasonably close fit, but are there any other players I should consider?
