My Sony 735 DVD player (£600 in 2000) is dying so I'm looking around for a new player.

My requirements are:-

Must haves:-
Play Region 1 and 2 inc RCE titles.
Component video out.
Progressive Scan for both NTSC and PAL.
Be sold in the UK (not into importing electrical goods)
Work well with a Panny PT-AE100

Nice to Have but not essential:-
VGA Out
SA-CD
DVD-Audio
Not be a Sony product (lost faith)
Memory Buffer for seamless layer changes (Denon do it)

Are there any players out there that meet my requirements???

it would be nice if it could record too!!! :D

A least I can get by with my HTPC but next year, when I move house, I don't want a PC in the lounge.

I think there is a Philips out there (962 I think!) , but needs to be imported. I don't think PAL progressive is readily available in the UK though, that's why you may need to import.

Good luck

If that's the case I'll wait.

With DVD recorders coming down in price I don't really want to buy another player.

I just need a prog. scan recorder to fall to around £300. :D

hang around for a bit. Apparantly one of the new Philips DVD recorders (DVD1000?) already has NTSC progressive scan output, and philips 963SA (oct/nov this year) is rumoured to be NTSC/PAL progressive.

So maybe their next recordable model in about 6 months will be progressive PAL/NTSC too.

Once the DVD forum have properly approved PAL progressive (in the next couple of weeks hopefully), there'll be a bunch of players available, and not all of them expensive.

I saw a Panasonic progressive scan dvd recorder on www.unbeatable.co.uk for £1000.

I know it uses the DVD-RAM format but maybe some other manufacturer's (non-dvd-ram) will follow suit.

I for one will not be buying a dvd recorder auntil I can get pal progreesive from componant out :D oh and it must have a digital terestrial tuner bulit in!
