Having just purchased a new Mirai 32¨ LCD I am using my standard Xbox & XBMC to upscale DVD´s to 720p (over component) but I am wondering how much better they will look using a Philips DVP-5960 upscaled to 720p over HDMI.

Has anyone (or could anyone) do a comparison and let me know wether it would be worth spending the extra £40 ish for the Philips DVP-5960.

    Thanks for the help guys
    Steve

Have you got the new xbox elite system ?

My xbox 360 over component will only upscale to 576p, which is what the design spec will allow.

I assume you mean xbox media centre when you quote xbmc ?

    Hi,

yep, as mentioned in the title and desciption I using the standard (older) xbox and I do mean Xbox Media Center (XBMC).

Was wondering if the upscaling would be much better on the Phillips? As it´s only £40 ish I could be pursuaded and then I will be saving up to build a HTPC (which I know whill be better again).

Waht to do, waht to do :suicide:

I would suggest getting a seperate upscaling dvd player.

Your choice of player is dependent on your budget.

For me, I recently bought a sumvision phoenix upscaler for £25 and once i got past the setup issues it gives very good performance and has hdmi output at 1080i, a usb reader which you can play divx films from aswell as the dvd.

Cheap - yes, functional - yes, good picture - yes.

    Do what you know best.

here's a link to another thread i started about this player:
