DVD output..which is better analogue or digital..

what I mean is if you have a decent DVD player with built in decoder would it be better to use the analogue outputs from the player for 5.1 etc or the digital (optical/coaxial).?

That would depend on the quality of the decoder in the DVD compared to the one in the amp. The better decoder will give the better result, always supposing that the interconnects in use for the analog signal are of sufficient quality as to not allow the introduction of any noise/interference.

I would second that and like to add that the decoder in the amp usually gives your more flexibility in setting up, as well it saves you some cables at the back if you use the digital connection.

Same applies for stereo, I for my part prefer the "digital sound" with my equipment.
