After having the **** ripped out of me for storing my DVDs in alphanumerical order on the shelves , I wonder how many of you out there have ordered your DVD collection and what is the most popular form of arrangement :)

    Pick one and vote

I put mine in alphabetic order.

This seems a reasonable thing to do, I own nearly 700,so its the only way I could find the film I want.

I list them in genre group.

I intended to place them in order of purchase but I could not find around 50 reciepts so I could not.

I suppose the saddest thing is that I still had around 650 original reciepts dating back over 5 years:blush:

    I must be a nerd:(

I don't want to tell you how many CDs I have but it's a lot more than the amount of DVDs you have and it takes me ages to find the CD I want these days. :(

That's my reasoning for ordering my DVDs from Day 1 - I don't want to end up in the same situation as my CDs (must sort 'em out one of these days).

It's alphanumeric order anyway - Ian had a go at me for saying alphabetical order in the other thread :D

I list them in alphanumerical order as well at the moment as they only fill 12 pages of a DVD Profiler report. When they fill more pages, I'll print them out by genre. :)

THROW THEM OUT!!!!! YOU DON'T NEED THEM YOU HOARDER!!!!! :D

I put mine on the shelf according to colour with all of the yellow covers together etc.

I think that it's the only way to avoid horrid colour clashes on the shelf. I have been buying one DVD a month for the last ten months and my collection would look awful if it wasn't colour coded.

That reminds me of a film I saw ages ago.

A chap has a woman move in with him and while he is out she rearranges his library (one of those huge ones filling a large room from floor to ceiling) by colour:D

Starting with the white ones through the spectrum to black.

Can anyone remember or was it somr strange dream:confused:

You have thought of everyway to store dvd's (vcd's in my case)except my way, I store mine in order of the running time of the film as I have a busy lifestyle, this allows me to go straight to the films I know I can watch in the spare time I have.

Mine just get put in a cabinet, no particular order, that way i don't suffer stress or anxiety if they're out of order, not the same size or different cases etc. :D

I bet some folk out there that set their speakers up with a tape measure, making sure the front left/right are equal distance from the screen, and the centre is actually in the centre of the tv, not a millimeter out. :D

Sounds like somebody over-dosed on Nick Park at some stage:clown:

My dvds are by genre at the moment. But that will no doubt change when I'm next drunk and can't find the one I want...

that's easy for you though. The three action films on the left with the porno filling up every other shelf.

As a matter of interest how do you file the porno (or perhaps I shouldn't ask)

I have over 2,000 dvds and if they weren't filed alphabetically I would never be able to find the one that I want.

II've only a hundred or so, and they are arranged so that they are just ready to topple from the top of teh bookshelf they are on when I decide that the one I want is on the bottom. They currently reside in two tall stacks.

http://www.snuggypossums.co.uk/dvdpreloadAtoZ.html (will take a little bit of time to load if you don't have a broadband connection)

I thought it was cool at first (especially when you click one of the spines) [IMG]

The novelty wears off after a couple of minutes though and you're left asking - HOW MUCH FREE TIME DOES THIS PERSON HAVE???? [IMG]

Gypsy Jake, "I have over 2,000 dvds and if they weren't filed alphabetically I would never be able to find the one that I want."

If you spent £10 or more on each DVD then that would come to over £20,000 on your collection. Hope you got insurance.

I suppose that makes you better than the rest of us does it?

You are no better than that lot in the General Forum who brag and boast about their Ford Granadas

I don't know whether you lot know this, but Gypsy jake owns over 2,000 DVDs and has to keep them in alphabetical order or he'd never find the one he wanted.

That's around 100 feet of shelf space. Gulp.

Whats the point of having that many? You couldn't have watched them all? At an average of 1 1/2 hours per film times 2000, that would take 125 days to watch if you watched 24 hour per day !!!!
Maybe he just buys them so he can set up a rental shop!!

I store mine in alphabetical order EXCEPT my bond films which are seperate and in Chronolgical order (to make a pretty logo on the spines) and my Box Sets are on a seperate shelf to make room for the 'standard' cases.

I just wish everyone would use AMRAY cases for normal 1/2 disc sets and those Warner cases look really crap and my R2 Citzen ane is in a Crystal Case. It just looks daft !!!!

I store my modest collection (150 or so) in alphabetical order although i seperate all the different style boxes.I keep the snappers all on one shelf, double boxes (Fight Club,Moulin Rouge etc) on another with the regular cases occupying the rest of my bookcases. I'm pretty anal about the appearance of my dvd collection much to the bemusement of my better half.

For some weird reason I store mine by film company. It seems more aesthetically pleasing to have all my Warner, EIV, Paramount, Fox, Pathe, Universals, Dreamworks, Newline, BV, Columbia etc together. Fox cardboard foldout cases through a bit of a spanner in the works but what can you do.
