    Hi all

I am just trying to purchase some DVD-R media to archive lots of videos using a Panasonic DMR E55 DVD recorder.

I have read a few reviews of Taiyo-Yuden discs and they appear to be regarded as the most reliable.

Question is: does it matter which speed I go for? Is a panasonic recorder without a hard drive capable at recording at speeds more than real time? In which case am I best getting the 4x rather than 8x media?

Sorry for such a simple question - hope someone can help.

Finally - any recommendations for best (cheapest) place to buy these from - I have been warned that ebay sales are sometimes fake?

    Many thanks

    Steve

You can only high speed dub with a hard drive.

I use Datawrite Yellow 4x and 8x DVD-R in my Panasonic and JVC recorders. Also purchased 2x50 disc spindles of Ridisc 8x DVD-R inkjet printable and they also work fine.

Obtain my discs from SVP. Carriage £5-49 for next day delivery.

You could also purchase some DVD-RAM discs from them because you can use these discs to record to over and over again and they also act similar to a hard drive so you can use them for time shifting.

    Great

Thanks for confirming that for me.

I'll have a look on those sites and see what they have.

I'm definitely going to have a couple of DVD ram discs too, but this is just for archiving VHS tapes, and some of the stuff I want to keep from my Humax.

    Cheers
