Is the Pio 920 still out there alone in this market? Recall reading that Sony and Panny were going to enter the fray...

    Any news, people?

sony will be introducing HM' to their next high end recorder, but probally left it to late, but why bother when the Pioneer flag ship recorder has it all plus EPG that actully works.

Yes. The Sony 1010, due in October, will have HDMI (including upscaling). Panasonic's E500 replacement (due November) will almost certainly have both as well.

The Pioneer 920 is a good recorder but is going to become quickly surpassed as a recorder. It's MPEG encoding is already inferior to budget models such as the EH50 and it's EPG relies on the analogue broadcast. The new Panasonic/Sony models are going to have integrated Freeview and the associated EPG.

    Thanks, guys...

Was going to boing this thread but while I was on hols you came back!!!

Shame that these others machines are still a little way off... Am currently without DVD player of any description and wanted to get this all in one to go with Plasma purchase (now looking like the Panny 37" PV500)

Unsure whether to hang on until the autumn... a grand is a lorra lorra money for a machine with mpeg encoding issues.

    hey guys.
Sorry - not going to offer something amazing - but just wanted to know the same thing - any other DVD Recorder (hard-disk or non-hard disk) which has at least 1 HDMI output? Apparently should offer better PQ than Prog Scan.

It's not that cut and dry. HDMI can offer an amazing picture - it can also be noticeably worse than analogue component.

The new Sony 910 and 1010 (October) will be equipped with HDMI as will the Toshiba RDXS64 (October) and the Panasonic E500 replacement (November).
