    Hi all,

This is my first post, so apologies if this has already been discussed! :suicide:

Anyway, I have just purchased an Hitachi PMA500E and naturally want to get the best out of it. I have an old Yamaha DVD player, but no ability to record anything. So, I thought either a DVD and/or HDD recorder with a component video out (or will an RGB SCART do?)

My budget is around the £500 mark. Any recommendations?

    Many thanks in advance!!

go for the HDD versions you will not regret it

Will this be your only dvd player, if so is multiregion a must?

there are 3 available at the moment, none support component so RGB will have to do I am afraid.

    Toshiba XS30 (80Gb)
    Panansonic HS2 (60Gb) (or it's bigger brother E100 (120Gb)
    Poineer 5100 (80Gb)

the E100 is £700+ and the Poineer 5100 is £600+

so these may be out of your price bracket

The HS2 can be bought for around £550, the Toshiba for under £500

Of the two I think the Toshiba is a better player, check out my thread on the player

I have a cheap modded Panasonic S35 as my main dvd player which does support component outputs and plays RAM. If you have the space think about it you can buy it for under £100. It gives you so many more options
