    Greetings :)

I have a Toshiba 210e which is on its way out. Due to lack of space I have no means of recording. I was thinking of replacing the Tosh with a DVD recorder including hard disk.

    My main requirements are:

    1. Good DVD playback (As this will be my main machine)
    2. Multiregion
    3. Good size hard disk as this will probably be used the most linked to NTL digi box.

I’ve had a look at the following

Pioneer DVR-530H Out of stock at Lx and the cheapest I can find it is £400 for multiregion

Toshiba RDXS34 Bit worried about the fan noise as this would drive me up the wall.

Sony RDR510 Seems to get a good name for normal playback and priced at £305 for the multiregion. Smaller HD.

Would the quality of these machines be on a par or above an old tosh ?

Any other recorders or points I should consider given my simple needs ?

    Thanks.

Panasonic EH50 - offers significantly better recording PQ than any of the above models and playback quality only matched by the Sony.

Have a look at the 'Which DVD Recorder?' link in my signature for the basic FAQs associated with DVD recorders!

    Thanks for the reply.

Had a look at at the panasonic and seems to hit the mark.

One last the thing :) How would normal DVD playback compare between the Pany and the Toshiba 210.

Never compared them side by side I'm afraid so can't really comment. Some local stores are sometimes willing to give demos of a product performance so you could always try this.

Do note that DVD recorders generally aren't as slick as DVD players for playback - i.e. features such as changing display, zoom, A-B repeat, PC file format playback etc - are all absent.
