    Hello folks,

I'm dissapointed to discover that the useful program DVD decrypter is no more. I'm not a pirate, nor do I pilfer from the local Video Ezy.

I am a collector of DVDs and I have been backing up copies of my DVDs for a long time now, particularly region 1 DVDs which won't play on my region 4 player. And, being a collector, I'd rather watch my back ups as a means of preserving my collection as best as possible... (You don't want to see me when I find a scratch!).

Can anyone here suggest a program that I can use to effectively take the files off my DVDs and put on my HD?

I use DVD shrink to make the files fit on a single sided disc, all I need is a good program to replace DVD decrypter or some suggestions as to how I can back up my DVDs from now on.

    Thanks!

you can use dvd shrink to do the full job, you don't need dvd decrypter necessarily. i'm sure if you have a good look around the web you'll come across that program. www.videohelp.com is a good resource for tools and guides to what you want to do

I need to replace it because the latest DVDs I have bought seem to force DVD Decrypter to close...

if you can find the download dvd-decryptor in its last version still works fine with the latest disks. I use it to rip my owned DVD's so that I can store them on my htpc for playback without having to worry about where the disk is or is it scratched etc.

    version is 3.5.4

The program seems to work OK now...

    However:

W 20:27:17 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 20:27:17 2 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
W 20:27:17 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.

    Interesting...

It seems like more measures to prevent honest dvd collectors from backing up...

[Mod Comment: guys, please remember, mentioning programs that back up media is ok, but do not mention hacking/cracking/removing copyright software, reengineering such stuff is still technically illegal, cheers folks: End Mod Comment]

Does anybody know if there is any difference between DVDFAB Decrypter and CloneDVD2?

I want to make a back up of my DVD's without any compression. Am I correct in saying these programs compress the movies?

So DVDFAB Decrypter doesn't compress the DVD? (If set correctly)

Firstly one of the biggest differences between DVD Fab Decrypter and CloneDVD is Decrypter is free CloneDVD is not although it has more options for doing a complete job whereas DVD Fab Decrypter is only for rippingthe DVD. When you rip the DVD to your hard drive(default settings will do) you then need to use another app to compress the DVD if you want to burn it to a DVD-5(no compression needed if you burn to a dual layer DVD). DVDShrink will suffice to compress the DVD if needed. There are tons on guides on the net going into great detail regarding this. Have a look on afterdawn.com for a few.
