My daughter wants to buy a cheap DVD player for use at University. She's currently using our cast off VCR connected to an ancient Sony TV via RF (no Scarts or S video on the TV).
Is there any way that she can connect up the DVD without a Scart or S Video on the TV?

All DVDplayers have a composite (yellow connector) and L/R audio (red and white phono) just like the video. Just use those connections into the yellow, red and white connectors on the TV.

No other connections available on TV other than RF (it really is ancient!).
Only other option I can think of is to link it via the VCR which has scarts/s-video etc - but I don't know if this would work...

Buy a new TV :D Sounds like the existing one won't do the DVD player justice anyway :)

You could try and run the dvd via the vcr but there has been some debate whether it'll work properly due to the macrovision.

Apparently you can buy RF modulators to do the conversion but once again the macrovision could put its fly in the ointment.

Sorry, but a new tv seems to be the best solution, plus as Messiah says, an RF connection is hardly gonna get a good picture from DVD. You might as well buy videos.

    HTH :)
