    Hi All,

I'm just about to take delivery of a player that can do both of these formats. I haven't bought it because it can do this, but nonetheless, I would like to try it out and see what the fuss is all about :D

Therefore, can anyone recommend a disc (of either format) that really shows off the formats potential.

My musical tastes are very wide ranging so anything goes really. But would prefer soemthing I can buy in this country easily ;)

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

    Ian

You'll be lucky to find much in the shops so you will have to go online (Play & Futureent have DVD-A Play also has SACD as does Amazon & HMV).

I only have 3 titles so far:

Roger Waters In the flesh (SACD)
    Miles Davis Tutu (DVD-A)
    Dave Brubeck Time out (SACD)

All are multichannel titles & they are brilliant. I was knocked over particularly by the Miles Davis title as this really was a huge improvement over my old cd copy.

Other discs i've seen recommended are from Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Aerosmith & Fleetwood Mac.

    Take the plunge -
"Once you've had multi channel music you'll never go back"

    Thanks for that.

I already have Tutu on CD so that'll be the one to try and then I'll be able to really see (hear) the difference.

    Cheers

For a good test, try Groove Armada - Goodbye country hello nightclub on SACD or Herbie Hancock - Headhunters on SACD. Enjoy

Most MVC stores have a fairly good selection of DVD-A's at around £20..

    Jim,
I ordered the Groove Armada SACD from Amazon just before Xmas and got in return that delivery would be around end of Januray. Oh well I thought, I can wait. But I got an email the other day from Amazon to say "Actually, we haven't got it after all, we've cancelled your order".

    museumsteve,
I'll take a look in MVC as I have one I can get to, see what they have.

    wilber,
Miles Davis - Tutu on DVD-A is just excellent. So much more than the CD. I'm enjoying it most evenings at the moment, truely a great use of the format. It is driving the missus mad though... ;)

    Cheers

Just noticed, Tesco are listing the Rolling Stones cds as "Remastered Super Audio" at £10.84, Yes £10.84. Will go on monday to check if there is any stock locally, if not will order online. Seems a bargain for SACD compared to elsewhere. This is all it will take to get the ball rolling for SACD over DVD-Audio. VMax

Gringotts, thanks for the link, it has given me some more to go for. Looking at the Stones stuff, I am not sure about mono and stereo tracks given multi channel treatment. probably buy one to try and make up my mind. VMax

    Stu,

I went back onto Amazon and they are now selling it but via one of their MarketPlace vendors (or whatever they are called).

    So I've ordered a copy again :)

Another one I can recommend is Bjork - Vespertine on DVD-A. Usual Bjork weirdness but musically OK. Really takes advantage of the multi-channel format and so crystal clear it can hurt at times ;)

    Cheers

Groove Armada SACD (Goodbye Country, Hello Nightclub ) has just arrived via Amazon.

What can I say, best of the bunch so far. (Bunch being multi-channel DVD-A or SACD). Most of it is subtle use of all the channels rather than spin the focus around the room, but does have a little bit of that.

But, wow, does it fill the room or what. Even the missus is impressed (she usually leaves the room when I reach for the remotes ;))

Thoroughly recommended as an SACD tester.

As a note, played it via my Sony STR-VA555ES using the multichannels inputs and also using it direct, i.e. no messing, no EQ, no effects at all, just amplified. And the bass/mid/treble was just perfect.

    Happy chappy

    Cheers

How well is that mastered please. If the band is in front of you I'll buy it but if they are around the side and back, then I won't

This album had originally mixed Quadraphonic available, bit like Tubular Bells, so surround mixes are executed well. Though not original JVC CD-4 vinyl release mix on this disc, more a homage.
I think you will enjoy it, if not 2-channel Hi-Res is terrific.
