It is well reported on this forum that there are DD5.1 tracks on DVD-A discs (As well as superior quality DVD-A 5.1 & DVD-A Stereo) For the DVD-A stuff your DVD-A player needs to be hooked up to your amp using 5.1 phono leads (that's how I have understood it anyway)
My question is that if I buy a DVD-A to use on my non DVD-A player (Pioneer 636) will I have to connect it up with 5.1 phonos or will the existing coax lead work for the DD5.1 track ? TIA - Paul [IMG]

Thanks MAL - As a matter of interest have you other DVD music stuff and if so how does the DD5.1 on your Corrs compare ?
Have you and of the DTS music only discs and likewise how do they match up ?
    TIA - Paul

Hi, sorry for dropping in, found your thread quite intriguing. I didn't realise DVD-A had this Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Do you know what the sampling rate is of this track, is it 24bit/96kHz (hi res), 16bit/48kHz (normal res) or variable?
    Cheers,
    Mark B

MarkB ... There's a good site to look at which should answer you query(s) ... www.digitalaudioguide.com
From their DVD-A FAQ I gleaned this on sampling rates (hope it pastes OK!)
    Sampling Rate - multichannel
    44.1, 88.2KHz or 48, 96KHz
    Hope this helps ... Paul

I have heard that some DVDA discs have both DVDA and DVD Video content for backwards compatability, so a DVDA player will be able to access the enhanced audio and a DVD Video only player will be able to playback the standard DVD-Video version.

Just got my first DVD-A ... ELP Brain Salad Surgery ... I can only access the DD5.1 track on my DVD player but what a track! Its excellent - better than I had expected and IMHO at least as good as the DTS Audio stuff I have (or have heard) The catalogue of stuff on DVD-A is small at the minute and I have no intentions of upgrading (CRASH - sorry the wife just fainted! B4 I could say) YET to DVD-A ... Well there's all the extra stuff you cant access without a DVD-A player
BTW The ELP disc has Lucky Man as an extra track & this happens to be my fav ELP track (wasnt I a Lucky Man - sorry I'll bog off now) [IMG]
