I think I read someplace that DVD-A requires a full 5.1 five phono connection to an AV AMP as well as the normal 2 stereo channels. Is that correct? ( I was just wondering whether I was required to spend half the price of the DVD-A player on MORE cables?? )

Unless you have a Meridian DVD & Merdian Processor or other same make DVD/processor or AV amp combo.

Not sure you need stereo out's, but defently need the 5.1 into your AV Amp.

I suppose the stereo outs are for those who don't have an AV amp. So it's enough to just connect the 5.1. Thanks! :)

Yes you need the analogue connections ... but don't need to go OTT on cables ... 3 pairs of Cambridge Audio Atlantic @ £10 each will do for most systems.

You know everyone seems to say something different, but the one time I actually found aome difference between cheap and expensive was on the cables between a CD and a pre-amp. I actually spent £150 for a pair of cables, I was so impressed. I was never entirely sure I knew why cd polayers seemed to most benefit. The question is, do dvd players benefit also, when used in SACD or DVD-A?? Cus, er, that would be nrealy £500 !!. Course, I would not spend that on MY dvd player, it's not that good. but even so, we are talking fairly big money!
