I understand that six phonos must be connected between the 3801 & my DVD-A player (on order) for the DVD-A signal to be accessed ... What do you then tell the 3801 so it accesses the correct signal ? I'm sure I could find out by trial and error but if someone already knows I'd be much obliged (and wont look like a thicko in front of the missus )
TIA - Paul

    A real case of RTFM!
Why not try the 'Ext In' button on your remote. This directs the 5.1 channels to their respective outputs and also passes the signals to the sub pre-out.

    Ian - Would that be TFM for the Denon or TFM for the DVD-A player which I haven't got yet ?
TFM for the Denon does cover "playback using the external input (ext in) jacks" on P47 but this assumes knowledge that you had but I didnt ... Now that you have kindly set me straight I need not bother you further

    Ok...I accept your defence

    You do right to check the manual also as I haven't tried this myself.

    You may find this useful;
http://www.del.denon.com./catalog/pdfs/AVR3801DFU.pdf
For a .pdf version of the manual. US but pretty much the same minus RDS on the tuner.

    Super amp by the way...let us know how it sounds with DVD-A. Which player are you using?

    Ian - Yes it is a good receiver - I took ages to decide between a Tosh 500 & a Pan 71 and opted for the latter (which I have just ordered)
I will let you know how my small (but rising)
DVD-A collection sounds in due course - A M8 has their "original" DVD-A player & it sounds GR8 so I'm optimistic i will be a happy camper ... Paul

    BTW I have the pdf manual the "original" was too small to read IMO - Hope I can find the Pan 71 pdf soon as well (not on the US Panasonic site yet)
