    Hi Guys,

    Question I need clarifying:

I have just bought a Pio 575 (lovely machine) I have it connected to my DD amp via optical connection, whilst watching a movie the other night I selected Dolby Digital 5.1 from the audio setup menu on the disc, however whilst playing it i pressed the audio key on the DVD remote and it showed the soundtrack as 2.1?

    (Disc was Hotel Rwanda)

I was getting surround effects, can anyone shed some light? Do i have this setup right?

    cheers

Wasn't it something like 3/2.1 ? This is the samething as 5.1.

If you press the audio button it usually skips to 2.0 and plays the commentary if there's one on the disc.

It is unusual if there's a separate 2.1 as well as a 5.1...PJ

More than likely when you pressed the audio button the audio track on the DVD switched to dolby stereo, and i'm guessing your amp no doubt switched from Dolby Digital 5.1 processing to Dolby Pro Logic, which explains why you still heard some surround effects as Dolby Pro Logic attempts to re-create the surround effects as best it can from a stereo source.

I have noticed on some dvds the stereo track being listed as 2.1 i can't remember exactly which DVD's but I have seen it

make sure your DVD player is not set to downmix 5.1 to 2.1........this happens sometimes......

altho the fact you were getting surround effects is a little odd.....was your amps display showing Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Logic on its main display?.....if DPL then it was creating its own surround effects as DPL is supposed to....if showing DD then i have no idea...lol....

I'll check exactly what it was saying, as I thout it had went to stereo too, but on pressing audio again i got the commentary, and then pressing again i got something that said something like 2/2.0 but I cant remember I repost later with the exact text from the DVD player.
