As the proud owner of a Pio 504HDE am considering a DV79 with its HDMI output. Sorry for a lame question but can this unit be delivered as multi-region? I am also considering a Pio 868i against the DV79, as this is an Arcam forum would expect you all to side with the 79 but has anyone any views from an actual direct comparision between the two players? cheers.....Lee
Dont know if it can be delivered region free but, when I got mine, the dealer told me the following should make it region free (I haven't tried it yet though so can't confirm): Open the disk tray Then press 1 1 1 1 1 3 Close the disk tray switch if off and then on again and it should be region free HTH John
Lee, If it like all other Arcam DVD players then to set it to multi region is a simple handset hack. Can't remember the handset hack off the top of my head but its very easy. Someone here will now it off by heart or there are plenty of sources on the web. HTH John Doh someone beat me to it
Cheers guys answers that question then . Just need to decide now if its worth the extra £200.00 over the 868i.
I have the 434HDE but tested the DV79 against the Pioneer 868 on the 504HDE. To me and my girlfriend, even the sales guy (who previously told me HDMI wasn't worth bothering with because he's never seen a vast, if any, improvement) it was a completely different image quality through the HDMI on the DV79 than the 868. I was willing to spend the extra on that. I'm just waiting............ and I have been promised it's no problemo to region-free it.
Do this: stop, setup, 4, 7, 9, 2 This takes you into the service menu where you can adjust region settings. Can't confirm it's that way with the newer players, but it is with my DV88+. Dean
My dealer, Listen Inn in Northampton. did the hack. It took only a few seconds. I'm sure any other Arcam dealer could do the same.
I have done a head to head comparison of the DV79 Pioneer 868 with the Pioneer 504HDE using HDMI link. I couldnt tell any difference in picture quality but the sound of the DV79 was noticeably smoother than the 868. Playing an orchestral DVD Audio disc - Mahler 5th Symphony BPO/Simon Rattle - the DV79 produced a lovely sound. The 868 was so harsh I didnt want to proceed further. Test was done with an Arcam 300 processor and BMW speakers.
