I thought I'd start a thread to discuss reviews elsewhere. It looks like the DV79 is making quite a mark!

This one was started by an Arcam dealer in the USA, so I'll leave it up to you to decide if he's biased!

In there you will find this link to a PDF of AV Tech's review.

I wonder, what's Arcam position on where the DV79 would fit in the CD range as a CD player? Surely not above the CD82?

I got my DV79 about a month ago and have since tried out various DVDs. I previously had a highly tweaked HTPC connected to my Panasonic 6UY plasma, and the results never lived up to expectations. But the DV79 to the plasma via HDMI/DVI appears to be flawless. I really noticed the difference last night when playing Two Towers. The sky in certain scenes were macroblocked on the HTPC and perfect on the DV79.

Suffice it to say that I am very pleased. The only downside is that I no longer want to watch poor transfers... I choose eye candy every time, even if the movie is not my taste.

I know what you mean ) The same can happen with hi-fi, when the sound quality of a recording can become more important than the musical content.

BTW I've found another link for the AV Tech review. The previous one looked like a (not very good) scan; this one looks pukka.
