When I bought my Canon camcorder, there were three JVC DVM60ME tapes with it.
I have been looking to buy further tapes and am a bit confused when I see DV and DVM in adverts. Is there a difference? If so what?

I need tapes for 'one-off' use, I will record from camera, download to computer to make discs, and then store the tapes - not using them for 'over-recording'.
Any suggestions as to what tapes I should buy, and from where?
Thanks, in advance for any help.

Well I got my last batch of DV tapes from Here and their prices are the best I could find.
I would recommend that you stick to the same tapes as you have been useing as different DV tapes have different coatingds that if they mix on the camcorders heads are likely to clog the heads causeing an expensive repair.

there are a few different versions of DV tapes:
MiniDV - the ones you have been useing
MiniDV IC - have an IC chip to store details of the recordings. Not worth it as most consumer cams wont be able to use the IC chip.
Then there are the pro version of full size DV & DVCAM tapes

Anything labelled as MiniDV will be what you need. I would assume that the DVM relates to DV mini or just the product code of the make of tape.

Yep, there are several cheap sites for DV tapes but you then get hit for expensive delivery. I found the site thanks to others recommending it on this forum.

Been trying all day to open the link to 'discountdiscs', but cannot manage it! How did you manage, Lurcher?
Had a look at 'Tape City', prices seem very keen - anybody used them?

Another day and still cannot get to the site from Mark's link (or even from the link sent to me after I emailed Discountdiscs).
The computer just hangs until "cannot find server" appears.
All my other 'browsing' is fine - so looks like I won't be able to use them.
    Thanks anyway! Cheers.
Apologies, just tried using a different ISP and I got through OK - it seems that my 'Tesco.net' connection does not like the site! I will ask Tesco about it.

I've emailed Sony (i've a Sony DCR-PC330 camcorder) asking about this and they answered me that there was no problem with my camcorder if mixing different mini DV tapes brands.

So, i would e-mail canon, if I were you, to see what's their view on this issue.

Now, if you are not confident about this, it's best to follow MarkE19 advice.
