    Two questions..

I have a basic firewire card, which has a power-supply connector on it (like the ones for power to CD or HD drives)... do I need to connect this?? what is it for??

Also, how do I output from the computer back into my DV cam??
using premiere, and a JVC DVL767 (which has DV-in) ??

Many thanks, and please e-mail responses as I might miss a post here..

U don' have to plug in the power connector, it is only required is there is not enough power for the card. If the card does not work in premiere, u may have to connect it.
Can't comment on the 2nd question!

First of all, make sure your camcorder it turned on and set to VCR mode (not record mode).

    Then go to

File> Export Timeline > Export to Tape

Premier will then 'build' the movie and then control the camcorder making it record.

I'll give that a try and see..

P.S. E-mailed the people I got the card from, and they too said the power-connector was not something I needed to use.

    Tried it... no good :-(

my Cam only has "Play" of "Record" mode...
tried both, and although Premiere manages to make the camera start recording, it still records what's in front of the lens... not what Premiere is "output to tape"ing....

    Any more ideas anyone?!??!

    Piers.. frustrated.

    Piers,
Does your cam have Play and Record modes,
or just a facility to let you playback footage whilst in recording mode? If not is there a setting on the camera or in the set-up menus (sorry don't know JVC DV cameras at all well) which enables DVIn?

I got a power connector with my Firewire card, but with no instructions as to whether to connect it or not.
I connected it, and tried to capture footage but it didn't work. It only worked after disconnecting the cable. Weird.
