Due to wifes incessant bickering have decided to give in (whats new!!!) and buy a DV Camcorder. Would appreciate any help in shortlisting a few models worth checking out at the local Comet etc.

    My purchase criteria is as follows;

    Meet £500 ish budget.
DV In/Out plus ability to record from Analogue source.
Good for editing via PC (Have USB2 & Firewire installed in PC).
    Simple to use.
    No bottom loading tape compartment.
Not interested in any Photo Capture features.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Dickz.

Just done a quick search on www.pricerunner.co.uk and found the following:

    Sony TRV19 £435
    JVC GR-DX55 £516.93
    Canon DM-MV500i £495
    MV530i £510.03

Take a look at these (and others) and then go to Jessops with the details of the web site/price and they will price match it for you. There are many more camcorders on the above web site, but it did not take more than a couple of minutes to find these.

    Mark.

I looking for one about your price range and specs aswell

I've narrowed it down to 2

The Panasonic NGVS50 - small, can be used as web cam, also able to record in MPEG 4

    Or

The Sony TRV 22 - slightly bigger but its got a top quality lense and hasnt got the web cam functions

Both are around about 500 maybe a touch more

Lets us know if you find out anymore info cause i still cannot decide which one.

    Thanks guys,

Managed to find a web site dedicated to DV users (www.simplydv.co.uk) which had some useful information.

Also checked out the Sony TRV33 and Panasonic NVGS50B at the local Currys store, both similar in size, and packed with features.

The only downside was the instore price NVGS50B £699.95 and the TRV33 £799.95, have found prices online at £509.95 and £649.95 respectively.

Prefer the TRV33 due to 16:9 mode, which is better suited to my 36" WS telly, but hate the bottome loading tape mechanism.

NVGS50B is about the same size, but seems to have a much more robust tape mechanism, that is better protected from the elements.

    still undecided!!!

    Dickz,

Do a search on Pricerunner for the camers - there are a number of retailers who are much cheaper than the price you quote for the Sony (including Amazon).

    http://uk.pricerunner.com/search?query=trv33

    < £600
