Yes, I still reckon so. I have had mine for a few years now, I love it and it's still an integral part of my system. Pound for pound, picture quality is excellent via HDMI and it spins CD's with musical efficiency. Arcam have since released better players but as long as I don't sneak a peek at those I won't know what i'm missing and won't go astray!:D If you can, try and get your mitts on an FMJ DV27a. This use to be the Arcam reference DVD player a while back and it's still wonderful. Might be available at a bargain price if you can find one or you could go the 2nd hand route. Hope this helps:smashin:

If you are looking for a dv-79 they can be had from Here for £399 (black only).
They also have the dv-78 for £299

Assuming they still have stock

Also consider Marantz, you can probably find incredible deals on second hand DV9500, and I have seen new DV9600 sell on ebay for £500-600 (advantages include SACD, 1080p for the 9600, fantastic build). RRP for both was £1500.

Moorgates also have the FMJ DV29 for £700 (I got mine from them) - I absolutely love mine but to answer the original question I think a DV79 is a good investment espe. at the £400 above.

Might also be worth checking the 7oaks clearance site ;)

Click on the special offers bit on the right hand side and go for end of line bit ;)

I saw a big step up on our CRT when moving from a harman kardon DV47 to the FMJ and I guess the biggeryour screen the more you will notice improvement of the better player (i.e. lesser players will start to stumble).
