I've just ordered a DV-27A that I should be picking up next week and was wondering if anyone could tell me what it's like with ordinary cd playback. It's replacing my Denon 2900 dvd player but was wondering if it could replace my CD23 as well. Music is more important to me than anything else so it would have to be at least as good as the CD23 for me to consider getting rid of it. Obviously I'll spend some time comparing the two before making a decision but was wondering if anyone else had owned both these machines and what their thoughts were.

Well, having owned several CD players in the past aswell from Arcam, Marantz and Nad, aswell as a DV27 and now a 27A, I find it to be more than good enough.

Haven't heard your cd player though, but I'd bet you'd be hard pushed to tell them apart.

That sounds promising. Could mean one less piece of equipment cluttering up the living room!

Yeah, I'd interested in finding out as well. I'm thinking of merging my AV and Hi-Fi systems and going back to just having a stereo Hi-Fi. If I could replace my CD23 with a DVD player with equivalent or superior audio performance then that would be very cool.

    Regards,

    Jules.

Owning both a CD33 and DV27a I can definitely say that the CD33 is better.
Saying that, the DV27a does a dam good job for a DVD player.

I agree, I own both the CD33 and the DV29 and the CD33 still outshines the DV29 for cd playback.

    Sorry for bad English.
If You have a chance to purchase CD23, dont think a long time. Must buy. CD23 Player is better, than 33 and DV27A. :hiya:

Better is so subjective, what if you need bass management?, How is the CD23 or 33 better?

    When i have choose between CD23 & CD33, i have post here.

In that moment wasn`t possibility to compare both players.
Of course it was very interesting for me. I have take my CD23T and have go to our Arcam dealer. We have hear both players hrough A32 and Monitor Audio GR10, like i have at home. :smashin:
Have hear: Fourplay - "Elixir", Metro - "Metrocafe", Tommy Smith - "Blue Smith", Carol Kidd - "Best of Carol Kidd 1"
I haven`t compare bass or high frequencys, i have hear music. IMO music from CD 23 was more natural and light. In music from CD 23 i can feel humour. CD 33 sound is very good too. But little bit away. Somehow he transmit iformation, not music and emotion.

    Such was my sensations. :)

    Timmy,

I recently got a DV27A and CD playback performance was what surprised me the most in it.

IMO it sounds amazing. It added a huge value to my Home System. I've read somewhere in a review that its CD performance level was difficult to match.

I recently did a shootout test with some friends where we compared the Denon 2910 with the DV27A (this was mainly a image shootout. We used a Sony HS20 pj)

As for image, performance was similar if not slightly better for the Denon’s side (by the way the progressive scan module from pj always resulted better than the one from the DVD players. Maybe because the pj was calibrated using its own prog scan module).~

As for audio, the Arcam showed all its brilliance. Stage, definition, detail. You name it! Nothing could match its standards.

I think that you will end up selling the CD23.
