I saw an add of the above company in Homecinemachoice. They offer a stunning looking 6 speaker system for an unbelievable price.

Is there anyone who can tell me a bit more about it? Are they any good? they also offer a 7 day trial? www.duoacoustics.com

I've never heard of the company but can offer the following comments on their website if that's any help.

    1) Duo Acoustics Ltd and the domain name are fairly recently registered so the company has not been trading long.

    2) The website seems to show just one speakers setup yet the meta keywords the website include the following:-

    I'm intrigued :D

Just spoke to them, a Brian; couldn't suggest anywhere where there might be reviews for the system, as of yet, sugested these would totaly blow my MXAV4 setup away, sugested at least 60w per channel feed from the amp, excellent system for both music and movies. Also, 7 day money back, no worries. Very tempted!

I'm afraid that technical specs tell you nothing. The floorstanders have three drivers, 6.5" 3" and 1" and the sound that they produce will depend on whether these drivers are £2 Hong Kong jobbies or well designed and made drivers as the difference between the two will be profound.

The frequency response is quoted as 40-28000Hz +/-20% and I have never seen a frequency response quoted with the +/- 20% parameter before as most self respecting manufacturers will use a +/- 3db figure.

The subwoofer seems to be a fairly compact passive unit so can't be connected to the LFE output of your amp.

Quite honestly I would wait until it has been reviewed by one of the magazines before anyone thinks of buying this setup. 7 day free trial sounds wonderful in principle but could well be a pain in practice and I notice that there aren't any testimonials from satisfied customers on the website.

    Canton
    CD100: £280
    CD50: £114
    CD10: £94
    ASD220SC: £222

    Total: £710

How do you reckon these would compare?

I don't know what sort of answer you are expecting. The Canton speakers are a known quantity with comments made on their performance by loads of magazines as well as forum members who have heard and/or bought these speakers.

It would seem that no-one has even heard of Duo Acoustics let alone heard the speakers and the technical specs on the website are no more than marketing mumbo jumbo so your guess as to the comparative merits would be as good as anyone else's.

I was questioning whether these were likely to be better than the Canton, going by the spec, but I understand your point of view.

I have had this speaker system since about October and I am very happy with it.I upgraded from an all in one Sony system to the Duo speakers powered by a Yamaha V2500.Now I am no expert on the matter of speakers but to me they sound good and they also look great either side of my Pv500 cabinet setup.I was a bit wary of spending so much on not such a well known brand but after reading a couple of good reviews in the mags i took the plunge.

I purchased the full system with tall speakers all round for £900 after hearing them at the ideal home exhibition. They sounded great. Full review in a few days time.

I've also been looking into purchasing these.

Would be VERY interested in reading a review from someone who has actually bought these.

I've spoken to Brian at Duo Acoustics and he assured me that the 7 day trial is there to take advantage of. If I'm not happy he'll take them back and refund.
I'm no expert on home cinema equipment - but these seem good value.

I'm just about to upgrade all of my equipment and have decided on the following:-
    Panasonic TH42PX60
    Denon 1920
    Yamaha DSP-AX757SE

The speakers are the only stumbling block.

Help :lease: this decision is doing my head in.

I've got a budget of around £600-£900 and they will be mainly used for Movies - not music.

I am considering these speakers, it's gonna be early April before I can get a demo in their local Woking office (they are currently at the Ideal Home Show). The dimensions of the units themselves look huge! I'm not too sure I have enough room for the two floorstanders and big centre. I demo'd the Quad L-ites last week, and think that I am sold on these at the moment (also available in piano black).

I will post some pics of mine as soon as my Pv500 plasma comes home from repair.I have the 2 floorstanders either side of the panasonic cabinet with the center speaker on the bottom shelf.Speakers match the surround of the Pv500 nicely in both colour and height.

Could you post some up now :lease: - I can always squint and imagine the TV in place ;)
I really need to see these in the flesh, in the home.
I was even comtemplating going to the Earls court show to have a look and audition. But I'm 100's of miles away and couldnt talk the other half into it :suicide:

Still she didnt grumble when I said I was spending over £3k on a new set up, so I cant complain too much. :D

Any pics at all would be appreciated though :smashin:

I saw these speakers yesterday at the Ideal Home Show and was very impressed, I too have a PV500 and thought the piano black would go a treat with the TV. The sub woofer is quite large (more squarer) compared to my current "all in one" set up and wouldn't easily hide behind a chair. There is also a removeable magnetic speaker grill for the tower speakers that was a nice touch.

The blue power lights on the main speakers will go well with the display on my Samsung DVD player :D but not too sure if they would become annoying after a time pulsing away during an action movie.

    Aproximate sizes are;

    Main speakers - 1140h x 120w x 380d
    Centre speaker - 470w x 125h (I didn't bother measuring the depth)
    Sub - 350w x 490h x 350w x 400d

I didn't measure the small speakers either.

If it's purely down to aesthetics then these are a great looking speaker set.

I'm waiting for the new Panasonic Home Cinema Gear to come out before making my mind up.

    I'm getting a hitachi 42" plasma tomorrow.
Either getting a Pioneer vsx1015, yamaha dspax757se or denon avr1906 amp (anyone got any idea which works best with the duos? mainly getting the plasma to use as a HD tv).
I'm also majorily considering these speakers (can't think of anything better for the price?) and will get the superior (4 towers) to go with the above amp.

There is a review on home cinema choice website http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/displayreview.php?reviewid=6346

I've been thinking along the lines of buying the Superior system also, with the 4 floor standers. My room size is approx 6.5m x 4.5m square, with the room set up around the ideal set up, (TV against 1 wall, speakers in each corner etc).
Do you think that the 4 floorstanders would be too much for a room this size?

RICHY500Y - any chance of the review yet?

I've had these speakers for about 2 months now and am very impressed with them. Can find no fault with them whatsoever. Was also impressed with the level of customer service that i received and the speed of delivery. They also look brilliant

I went to demo these speakers at Brian's home in Woking. I loved the sound, but unfortunately the centre speaker was too wide/deep to fit anywhere in my lounge! All of the units (including the rears) are quite deep. It's a shame, but I've had to go for the (more expensive) Quad L-ite satellite speaker set (which I also like a lot!).
