Hi I’m thinking of getting R2 Dune(the film not the TV Mini series) tomorrow, is there a better version out there or a special version planned.

Dont go there. Dune has 2 R2 releases. The original theatre release and a Special TV edit with around half an hour of unseen footage. The only thing is the TV edit is in 4:3 and mono sound. This has put me off from buying this DVD for ages, even though I love this film I still havnt seen this version. I can only hope some one else with a love of this film will come along buy the rights and give this film a decent release like it deserves.

    SNAP!!

You can't go wrong for £4.99 really! I bought it myself and was actually quite pleased with the quality of it considering!

You could take a look at the R4 version. It has a fairly decent non-anamorphic widescreen transfer and DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks.

All that time and Lex and I replies at the same time then I alter my answer and Lex beats me again. Remind me not to have a typing competition with you.

    Is Dune R2 anamorphic.

I have the £4.99 (payed £6.99 at play.com). It not even worth this. The american cheesy VO keeps popping up and explaining things to the IQ challenged american TV audience. The extra 30 mins include panning in and out of some photo's taken from one of the books. Bloody awful!! Underrated film though

The TV version of Lynch's Dune is not in mono. In fact, it's a better 2.0 surround track than you get from down-mixing the 5.1 from the theatrical version to pro-logic.

Just to clarify this; this is the TV version that has the 30 minutes extras and the voiceover with paintings/drawings. It's pretty poor. Lots of the additional scenes never went through post-production so SFX weren't added (ie the Fremen don't have glowing blue eyes).

The current £4.99 version in HMV is the cinematic release. It's DD5.1 and 16:9 (not anamorphic, but pretty a good transfer anyway).

The TV version and Cinematic version have very similar covers and they're both by Castle so it's easy to mix em up. The cinematic version has 'widescreen' plastered onto the front.

I just may stick with my copy off the TV as this is also 16:9 and anamorphic. I will probably wait for the 2.35:1 anamorphic version.

    Thanks for all the info.
