Does anyone have any details on this at CDWOW? (here)

Looks like its a longer cut of Dune, but not sure about waht's on the other 2 disks. I would assume that the film is split across the first 2 disks (3hr film with DTS!) with some extras on the thrid. Anyway, anyone have anymore info???

It's the Aussie R4 ltd ed tin:

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/780736

Be warned it's exactly the same transfer and extras as the Sanctuary UK edition, just with the TV version chucked in as well.

I believe the R4 also as a faulty 5.1 track - I'm not sure if this was corrected in a later pressing. If you want the best extant version of Dune (I don't know what the new Korean one is like) get the French R2 Ultimate Set - light on extras, but lovely remastered transfer and has the TV version too. Better 5.1 than the Sanctuary version. DTS too.

It's rubbish! You've been warned!

Crap transfer and the most motley series of static, web page extras you've ever seen!

Still, it had one of the first (if not the earliest) anamorphic transfers of Dune, which is why people shelled out for it. It's naff otherwise, unless you need to own EVERYTHING! with "Dune" on or in it.

This is the Korean edition I mentioned:

http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1004069487/code-w/section-videos/

I have no idea if it's any good or not. I'd quite like to know, actually. I was waiting for someone who's got it to report back...

Look at this!
That looks nice, i like the cover too.

I have a Region 4 version which is not anamorphic but has a very nice pq to it, it also has a full bit rate DTS soundtrack, although a bit limited.

The French version does look nice though :smashin:

I got the French UE, and yes, it is very good. Someone on another forum (I think) mentioned that they would love Peter Jackson to do a remake of Dune, given his excellent handling of LOTR. If not a remake, then certainly trying to adapt the other books in the Dune series...

Was ist das Gary? Das is eine wunderbar DVD sort-of-thingy mit der grosse extras...

Saw this on a website (can't find the damn thing now!) in English, and this is stacked with extras. One of which was a feature on a Dune themepark somewhere in Europe! Dune heaven...

Will have a good look tonight and see if I can find the site.

There must be more versions of this film about than any other! I am almost sorry I ever asked about the R0 one
DVDCompare's info on them is a minefield too! (here ).

So Which is the best version??????????

An update on my post about the dvd from amazon. It would seem that this version may not be avalabe yet . Either that, or amazon is the only site to be selling it. I have done some net research and I can find no other site that has it yet. A few sites are saying it has been delayed though. Even the reviews and coments over at amazon say that its not avalable yet. very strange

That Universal R1 SE has been indefinitely delayed - it was supposed to be out in July.

There were rumours that Lynch was to be involved in reconstructing a longer cut based on the TV version, but I think it's all bunk. Whatever, they were supposed to be reconstructing and remastering the extended TV version.

Personally, I don't think it'll get released now - it's disappeared from Universal's release schedule.

I've owned the R2 Castle discs, the Perfect edition, the Sanctuary edition and currently the French Ultimate edition. The French is the nicest - it has the best sound, best PQ and isn't cropped like the Sanctuary transfer is.

I want to by Dune on DVD, but as you can see from the above line, I'm a little confused!
I would like both versions (for completions sake;) ) with DTS, at least on the Theatrical version and an anamorphic W/S pic, not too worried about extras.
The french seems to be the favourite but there is a new R1 being released shortly, The Extended Edition DVD, which is theatrical and "extended edition", which I presume is the TV version, but cant find a definate if it has DTS.
Any ideas as too French or new R1? :lease:

The only thing that worries me about the new Dune R1 is that it's a DVD18 (iirc) and unless you like cheap discs pressed by Bender in Mexico that fail on the third viewing, they've not been too reliable lately.

Yeap, it seems it is a DVD18. I must say I havent experienced problems with them in the past, so I wouldn't be too alarmed but I may wait for a review here, see what the guys say.

(Whats this THANKS about?)

I had my first R1 DVD18 fail on me the other day (Willard) after being fine for ages, and now it won't play on any of my players - it visibly looks like the layers are separating on the disc.
