Done a few searches on this and haven't really found an answer.

How do widescreen projectors handle non-anamorphic sources (ie 16:9 letterbox in a 4:3 image) ? Widescreen TVs always have a 'zoom' or 'cine' mode which will expand the image to fill the screen. Do 16:9 native projectors have this facility, or do you have to use the PJ in 4:3 mode and have small image in the middle of the screen.

BTW I'm talking about the circa £1K LCD models, as this is what I'm looking at for my planned PJ purchase (Hitachi TX100 is looking favourite at the moment)

    I have a Panasonic PT-AE300 native 16:9.

It has all the modes that a widescreen TV has, including zoom...but....

.....it is set to wide for anamorphic, however, if I play a non-anamorphic it still displays the correct picture when left set to wide. I don't really understand it all but it works.
