Just a quick rant. Why do even so-called 'specialist' electronics shops employ hapless fools to deal with customers?

My Grundig Digibox transposes the red and blue colours in the DVD picture when used for RGB passthrough, so, following advice from this forum, I went in to see if they could knock me up a scart cable with a couple of pins reversed. Simple enough, you might think. The looks of blank incomprehension that hung on their faces immediately told me my luck was out. They even tried to cover up for their ignorance by suggesting that there might be some sort of adaptor available. Oh Buddha.

So I went to Argos instead and bought an RGB switch.

Maybe I'm being unreasonable, I don't know. Rant over.

Yeah it's rather pathetic... but I guess it's just a reflection of the poor service levels in this country in general. The problem is enough of us Brits don't make a fuss when something isn't as it should be. The "picky" folk on this forum (including yours truly ;)) are the exception. Shame really.

Spot on. Sadly, most shops are happy to cater for the 99% of customers who just want to buy a box and connect it up. The cost of helping the remainder is far too high for them to worry about.

The 99% that are happy with composite and RF !!!!! I have found some very knowledgable people in shops and some very un kmnowledgeable like the Guy who told me once you have heard one DD system you have heard them all when i asked for a demo! That lost them at least £600 sale so i bought the same kit off the net for £400!

Knowledge costs money. Most high street stores want to pay the minimum wage to their sales staff. No hifi/tv anorak will be attracted by that kind of insult. The result? For the large part you get monkeys who know nothing. I am sure there are exceptions, but I have yet to experience them
