Hi, any news when dual layer recorders are out?
Some Philips models will be out in the next few months but it will be next year or so before we see anything decent (Sony etc).
Its worth buyning one now or wait for those?
Worth waiting without a doubt. Reliability issues of Philips DVD recorders aside dual layer DVDR media is still quite expensive (£6 per disk online) and so not that practical for daily use yet. The lack of editting and features on Philips machines means your fairly crippled with what you can actually do with the disk and so you won't be getting good value.
However the main reason is these are still early days and, on the PC side, there are incompatibility problems between unburnt media and burners . On the PC this is simply dealt with by firmware upgrades - and in theory the same is true of DVD recorders - but the DVDR7x series had a tendancy to sieze up when you upgarded the firmware! The same could be true of the new DVD recorders.
