Dual digital tuners / HDD and dvd burner?

Hi peeps,

well i was going to get the new samsung but im sick of waiting for it now, so they have lost a customer.

Basically i want to be able to record tv to hard disc and then burn to dvd to archieve stuff.

Now can you get boxes that have dual digital tuners with this functionality?

What would be a good box to get, around the £250 mark?

Id also like HDMI output if possible

Sorry for all the questions, totally blind to this sort of thing to be honest

No twin-tuner DVD-HDD machines.

Twin tuners in a HDD-only PVR, or single tuner in a HDD-DVD machine. Those are your choices for at least the forseeable future AFAIK.

It would probably cost Sony/Panasonic/Samsung et al bugger all to chuck another tuner in and all of a sudden they'd have the best machine by a long shot. Why don't they do it?

My money's staying with me until one of them does.

Been discussed to death before, it doesn't just require another tuner, it requires another tuner and another MPEG2 encoder.

Panasonic have had multiple tuner DVD recorders in Japan for several years. They even have a quad tuner unit now.

They say their market research doesn't justify them releasing one here.

Remember the Japanese AV market is totally different to the UK / EU one....

Same here - girl at work asked me to find one for her like that but I couldn't, so she settled on a single tuner DVD/HDD recorder (Philips I think) The only work around I could come up with for her to record two things at once or watch a different channel whilst recording something was to get a cheapo (Tesco) Freeview STB, and plug it into the DVD/HDD box.

That might let her watch something while recording but would it allow to record 2 things at once.?

To be honest I don't know! I know she could deffo watch a different channel to the one she was recording, but before she ever tried out twin record, she went and got V+ so now barely uses the Freeview part of her DVD/HDD recorder!
