dual cs 504 finally arrived!!!

Well... it finally arrived.... powers up but no way to test as of yet as I need to replace the din plug for phonograph plugs...

Couple o questions....

Firstly... how do I get into the bloody thing???? Undone all the screws I could find but it still doesn't want to come apart!! I plan to service it all properly anyway but would like to see if I can at least getting playing!!

Reet... got the cables changed and a longer power lead and fresh plug and it powers up and plays... sort of...

Bear in mind I know nothing about turntables...

It plays for a second or two and then starts again... I understand that everything needs setting up but what would cause this? I'm planning on getting a new cart + needle and I know it isn't the record as I tried 2 that definitely worked before but now both do the same thing...

I've discovered the counterwieght isn't attached... so would that affect things? the counterwieght is still on the end but has a rubber ring on the inside to keep it on... not attached to the threads...
