Have followed guide to install xp to existing windows 7 laptop,xp has installed to the d partition as expected. The problem is xp drivers are trying to install to C: windows 7 partition and overwrite the existing windows 7 ones. The fault driver inf file not found is also happening on some of the drivers that need to be installed to xp.Anyone know why this is ?.thanks in advance.

Why on earth are you installing win xp on dual boot ?

If you need it for testing purposes just install win xp on a virtual machine using vmware or even the free virtual pc version that was in win 7 ultimate.

As next010 says installing XP on a VM would be a much better choice... I normally use VirtualBox as it's free. Makes it easy to scrap the VM if something goes wrong or you no longer need it.

I'm guessing you are trying to install the XP drivers whilst booted into XP? If you are some windows programs assume C to be the default drive letter for windows installations and are probably getting confused by the fact a Windows folder exists on C as well. This is probably the problem your running into and would be down to poor programming practice from the original developers as they should be looking at the environment variables: %WINDIR% or %SYSTEMROOT%.
