Music wise - what is your preference?

The majority of the time whilst listening to music, I'll have the 5 Channel Stereo button selected - though this is dependent on the CD i'm listening to. I'd heard so much about how fantastic DPLII was before I heard it - and yes - it is good... - however, 5 channel stereo seems more enveloping...

    Thoughts?

Of the choices you have given, I prefer 5CH Stereo, especially if all speakers are tonally matched or if they are identical. PL2 runs a close second with DTS bringing up the rear.

When i listen to CD's i always just use the normal 2 channel stereo as thats how they were recorded and designed to be listened to. If i am out of the room i will pop the amp on the 'disco' setting which uses all four surround speakers though.

I have yet to try a music disc recorded in 5.1 :(

My preference is for 2 channel stereo - it is more natural than any of the others. DPL2 is my second choice and has a novelty value. DTS Neo 6 adds too much bass in my opinion.

I tend to use 2 channel stereo, most of the time.

However I find that some CD's sound better in PL2.

    ???

philosophical question: does the music play when you're not there? Do the speakers listen to themsleves?

Nothing really sounds better than plain old analogue Stereo on 2 ch material in my opinion. I do find DTS Neo 6: Music Mode to be much better than DPL II and 5Ch Stereo though.

Until the end of the disk, yes (unless it's set on 'repeat') ;)

I'm still experimenting and haven't yet bought a dedicated CD player for my AV setup so it's not my primary music listening platform yet.

I do love stereo, but am really enjoying PL2's Music mode at the moment. Couldn't make a conclusive decision on which I prefer at the moment though.

However, I do know that 5 channel stereo seems a bit 'excessive' to me. It's hard for me to explain but it might have something to do with my particular arrangement of speakers as I am not equidistant from them and the fronts are just off to the right in a corner. I'm also in very close proximity to my speakers, so no doubt that has much to do with the 'overload' I feel from 5 channel stereo.

Not heard a DTS CD yet.

I used to only ever consider 2 channel stereo but have recently been using DTS Neo 6 which seems to do a quite reasonable job on my system

I use CSII and 2 channel when I listen to music. CSII is way ahead of DPLII & DTS Neo in terms of sounding natural.
