Question DTS-HD MA / Dolby True-HD on Sony AF9 / A9F App

Hi everyone,

I have just purchased the Sony AF9 / A9F TV and the Denon AVR-X3500H receiver, that are both compatible with eARC.

This eARC compatibility allows to transmit HD audio format in passthrough (such as DTS-HD MA / DTS:X / Dolby True-HD / Dolby Atmos) from the TV to the AVR.

I have tested this feature and it works well when the source is my 4K Blu-ray player (Sony UBP-X700), connected to my TV. Every kind of (HD) audio formats is recognized and played by the AVR.

However, I didn't managed to get any HD audio format from any App (Plex, Kodi, SPMC, VLC, Build in video player). These apps either tells that "Audio format is not supported by the device", display only DTS instead of DTS-HD MA, or even convert Dolby True-HD to Dolby Digital Plus.

I have tried a lots of different settings and never managed to get any HD audio sound from any App.

Has anyone succed in getting HD audio format on their AVR from these Sony TV Apps, or is there any other app that might allow to get this?

I think you will find that right now ,no app allows HD audio on the AF9 ,I don’t know if this is a Sony ,or Android in general problem

Well I guess this is a Sony problem as I know that Plex App can send any HD audio format in passthrough on the Nvidia Shield, which is an Android TV Device.
