hi, I was wondering how the dts (or any other surround sound formatt) works?

I have an assignment to show, through visualisation techniques, something that is not easily describable. so i thought "how suround sound works" was a good topic. Unfortunately i cannot find anything helpful so far on the net. I was just wondering how the dts track is stored on the disc and transferred to dvd player>amp>speaker>ear. As I dont know if dts is sent in serial or parallel around the system, when it is decoded upsampled, changed from digital to analogue. can anyone help me out?

    thanks for any help
