    Guys

Had my Apple TV since June and have ripped my entire DVD collection (300 DVD's) so I can do away with the discs. Very pleased with the way it all works I'd now like to take advantage of dts audio tracks used on some of the discs. I know Apple TV won't play dts so was thinking of moving the ATV to the bedroom and getting a Mini for the lounge (was going to get a second ATV anyway) BUT will a Mini play dts?? If so how? Also rather than keep TS folders can I convert to M4V/MKV etc and retain the dts soundtrack.

    Cheers

    Dave

I've not found a way to do it. The mini will output DTS from the VIDEO_TS folder when played through FrontRow/DVD Player but you start having problems if you want to compress them to M4V etc... Once compressed iTunes/FrontRow stops outputing any form of 'digital sound' but when view through Apple TV you get the full Dolby Digital/AC3.

None of the encoding software has an option to retain the DTS soundtrack!

So no real point of re-encoding the DVD's unless I want to keep them as Video_TS folders (uncompressed).

    Cheers for the response.

Alternatively, bite the bullet and go with the Dolby Digital soundtrack....

That's what I have done so far, would be nice to be able to utilize dts on the disc's what offer it. So not the end of the world :)

Downloaded a couple of samples/trailers today with dts (MKV's) to play with. Handbrake won't encode them as you stated but will play in stereo, won't VLC/FR etc play a MKV with dts?
